It’s depressing when you drive by a golf course and see a tarp covering the greens. Hey, it means winter is here and golf courses are closed for the season. I was down in Palm Springs not too long ago and I talked to a resident Palm Springs starter. He had no clue about our Canadian courses shutting down for the winter. As much as we are curious about their overseeding, they are curious about how we protect the green from the snow and freeze.
If they don’t overseed their courses, the grass burns out. It’s like how our grass looks like in the early spring, yellow and brown and dried out. After they overseed a course, the grass comes back lush and green. The worst time to visit Palm Springs is in September through to November. If you are expecting lush green fairways then visit in January through August. If you don’t mind seeing the grass in its burned out colors then take advantage of the overseeding rates during late September to November timeframe. You can play some awesome courses for cheap, if you don’t mind the grass and deserted fairways.
If you can’t leave town but want to hit the links, get yourself a Wii and a Tiger Woods PGA Tour game. It’s like having a golf simulator in your living room. You can play courses like Pumpkin Ridge, Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass and many more with Tiger hitting 300 yards plus. Even when he duffs the ball, he still reaches the green in regulation.
Wii consoles are in stock in most stores around town such as HMV, EB Games, Superstore and Wal-Mart.
